Arthritis is not your grandmother’s disease any longer. The rate of arthritis, either Osteo or Rheumatory, is escalating in 2012, and approximately 50 million people have been told they have arthritis by a doctor. Over 50% of senior citizens have been diagnosed, but the rest are generally under 60! Statistics show that by the year 2030, over 67 million people over the age of 18 will have one form or the other.

One of the areas that affect arthritis the most is taking time to get exercise every day.You can find a quick rundown <a href='http://depuyrecall.wordpress.com/2012/04/23/ benefits-of-recumbent-cycling/’>here It seems an oxymoron to exercise those joints that are aching, but research shows that even light exercise will keep those joints loosened up. Here are steps to take in developing a light fitness plan that works for you.

1.	If you can get some active exercise in during the morning, it will help you all day. Moving actually stimulates the synovial fluid in your joints that will make less pain all day.
2.	Take a warm shower in the morning to loosen your joints.
3.	Take a nice walk after your shower, moving arms and legs to get your heart rate up. This builds an inside warmth and energy that releases tension and pain.

Some family members may toss a compliment your way and say you look great at age 60. Well, for one who has been there, it’s not only the shape you’re in at 60, it’s staying that way at 65, 70, even 80. Staying in shape is, well, it’s a commitment and a challenge, and it’s not easy. Your diet can play a large part in “looking good,” but many seniors believe that exercise is the key.

The main focus of your regimen can change as you grow older. You may have been a runner, jogger or walker, and now choose yoga or Pilates as a way to keep your joints and body healthy, flexible, and strong. On the other hand, some pundits say you should eschew the pounding your body takes in jogging or running, and do more walking even if it’s on a treadmill. Staying in shape at 60 will be a measuring stick to your good health as you age, but you need to be cognizant of trouble spots along the way that can involve your knees, hips, back, and feet. The key is don’t give up; adapt and change all the way to age 80, and beyond.

For those who work behind a desk all day, fitting in exercise to your schedule can be difficult. There are several activities, though, that can be done throughout the work day and will help to keep you healthy and toned.

An easy way to work some exercise into your work day is to schedule time for yourself to take a break from your desk and go for a brisk walk. This can be done as a break from work entirely, to clear your mind and re-energize yourself, or it could be done with a colleague in place of having a seated meeting to discuss a work related topic. Walking will increase your heart rate and encourage flexibility, both of which will help to increase your metabolism over time, and in the short term, aide focus and thus productivity.

Another favorite suggestion for exercising in the office is to practice assisted calisthenics. Even in work clothes, you can do quick sets of push ups against a wall, or calf raises while standing behind your desk chair. These small moves will fire muscles that would otherwise be at rest all throughout your workday. Regular engagement in calisthenic exercises like these will help to keep you toned and your metabolism in check.
